GCG Congratulates Attorney W. John Funk on his Retirement
CONCORD, NH — Gallagher, Callahan & Gartrell congratulates Attorney W. John Funk on his retirement after 43 years with the firm. Attorney Funk practiced law for over 45 years with extensive experience in the government and private sectors. He was engaged in general business practice with specialties in financial services law and timeshare law, and The Best Lawyers in America recognized him for the excellence of his work.
John’s professional accomplishments were numerous. Among them, early in John’s career he played a central role in navigating the bank failures of the 1980s and early 1990s, as well as the growth in interstate banking. In 2015, John was the primary drafter behind the recodification of New Hampshire’s banking act, and helped set the stage for the growth in trust companies that has since been underway in the state.
John was also active on numerous boards and received the NH Bar Award for Distinguished Service to the Public in 2002. Not long after, in 2004, he was named a New Hampshire Bar Foundation Honorary Fellow. John was honored for his work with the banking community to support Interest on Lawyers’ Trust Accounts (IOLTA) and his work over the years to expand the resources available to the New Hampshire legal services community. John served on the steering committee for the Campaign for Legal Services, and helped raise millions of dollars for New Hampshire Legal Assistance, Legal Advice and Referral Center and New Hampshire Bar Association’s pro bono program. Additionally, in 2005, John was awarded the Carnegie Hero Award for civilian heroism for risking his life to save two people from a burning car.
John’s tenure and loyalty to the firm and his clients has been remarkable. He has been instrumental in growing Gallagher, Callahan & Gartrell into what it is today. In addition, John worked to improve access to justice, and mentored numerous attorneys. John was a wonderful colleague and friend, and we congratulate him on an incredible career and a well-deserved retirement.
